Pilgram Girl with Puritan Style Hat

Back in October I found this great image and I used her Puritan hat as a funky witch hat for an art doll project.  I liked the image so much that I used Photoshop to colorize three more variations for use in Thanksgiving, Christmas and anytime projects.

This is the Original image I started with.
Le Chapeau de Brigand - 1883 engraving by Lumb Stocks
based on a picture by Thomas Uwins

In Photoshop I started by adding color to her skin, eyes and hair.
I also added light blue to the blouse bodice, cuffs and collar.
(I saved this image as a base so I could create a variety of
colorized costumes for her as I needed them.)

Green Version
I added Olive Green and Brown tints to the darker portions of her costume
and several colors were added to the feathers of her hat.

Blue Version
I added a Blue tint to the darker portions of her costume and
several colors were added to the feathers of her hat.

Mulberry Version
I added a Mulberry tint to the darker portions of her costume and
several colors were added to the feathers of her hat.

 Halloween Version
This is the colorized version I did for Halloween;
using Orange and Purple tints in Photoshop.

I really get a kick out of seeing how different a image can look based just on the color changes made to it.

The great thing about old black and white engravings is that you can colorize them on the computer using a program or you can print them and add color by hand.  I enjoy the variety this gives me to create whatever color scheme I want for a project.

Grins and Giggles,
 Evelyn
