EKD "Old World Charm" - Digital Scrapbook Page Examples

Part 8 - "Old World Charm" - Finished digital Scrapbook Page Examples.

I thought the best way to close out my blog post series for my EKD "Old World Charm" digital collection was to put all the page examples using products from this line together for easy viewing and I've even put together a new page to to head it all off.

This tribute page celebrates my husband's wonderful grandmother - Mammy.
She was truly an amazing woman who knew how to
Live - Love and Laugh with the best of them.

These are the other digital scrapbook pages I created using a variety of elements
from my "Old World Charm" digital collection that I've been posting about all month.

EKD "Old World Charm" - Extras and Fun Vintage Finds

Part 7 - Extras and Fun Vintage Finds to go with my EKD "Old World Charm" digital collection.
I had so many fun and wonderful vintage items in my personal collection that I thought to include this sheet of "Extras" as part of the "Old World Charm" series.

Extra items in my "Old World Charm" digital collection

I collect vintage photographs like Cabinet Cards and CDV's as well as any that
come with a cool mat.  I've made several great purchases recently and thought
they worked great with my "Old World Charm" digital collection;
so I've added them in for the Grins and Giggles of it.

I Hope you Enjoy them!

Vintage "Extras"
coordinate with my "Old World Charm" digital collection

A great vintage Deco photo mat
in brown and gold

I was fortunate enough to find two vintage First Communion Photos
recently in a local antique store and had to add them to my collection.
This lovely lady is from 1931

I took the mat from the girl above
and altered it in Photoshop to get another look that
I can now use digitally with any other image as I choose

This is the other First Communion Photos I
recently purchased at a local antique store.
This lovely lady is from 1929

This digital frame was created in Photoshop by
altering the above 1929 photo mat

Another antique store find - A great photo in a great mat.
I just love the lady's clothes, hat and the fact that
she wears glasses, it's all too fun.

Now the above digital mat can be used with any image.

Vintage CDV German photo

Another German CDV from my collection

One more CDV photo from Germany

A Tag Embellishment I created in Antique Blue

A Tag Embellishment I created in Moss Green

A Tag Embellishment I created in Dessert Rose

Bonus - Title Bar
I used this title bar on post
http://ekduncan.blogspot.com/2011/05/my-ekduncan-old-world-charm-digital.html

This bar allowed my word art to keep from getting lost on the busy background page.
The color is so light on this piece that you can use a clipping mask in Photoshop
to change it to a different color if you need to.

A French doll in my "Old World Charm" colors.
I love collecting antique paper dolls and could not resist making
at least one doll embellishment to go along with this collection

This is what the Original antique French paper doll looks like
This type of paper doll was called by the French a "Pantin" Jumping-Jack Puppet

A great vintage Deco brooch to add some bling

I hope you enjoy the extra bit and pieces
to add in with the rest of the  "Old World Charm" digital collection.

Please remember to check all the other May 2011 posts
for the entire series of "Old World Charm" items.

EKD "Old World Charm" - Floral Scroll Paper Set

Part 6 - Floral Scroll Paper Set from my EKD "Old World Charm" digital collection.

This set includes the 4 coordinating papers and the Gray Tone paper template that can be used as is or to create other color pages with a digital computer program like Photoshop.

EKD Floral Scroll Paper Set - part of my "Old World Charm" digital collection

I like to have a ready to use stash of coordinating supplies when I'm working digitally.
Creating one base template paper and saving them with different colors that blend with my other papers; gives me an additional supply of quick complementary design choices.  Then by also having the base gray tone template I can create additional colored pages as needed.

I created the Floral Scroll pattern to have a fanciful Baroque pattern that reminded me of Europe and the colors for the four papers are based on the focal colors from the pallet I used when designing  my "Old World Charm" digital collection.

The Gray Tone paper is the paper template and can be used "as is" or a digital color layer may be applied so it can be tinted at a later time as needed to match any project I'm working on.

This is the color palette I decided on when I designed my
"Old World Charm" digital collection

I used the darkest value in each color family to create the 4 pages
in the Floral Scroll Paper Set

How I use the template in Photoshop.
I know there are lots of ways to use Photoshop or other digital editing programs
but for simplicity I'm just showing how I opted to colorize this gray tone template.

I wanted a Plum colored version of this paper so
I began by opening a new page via File - New at the top of my Photoshop toolbar.
I named my new document Fancy Border Mosaic - Plum
and selected all my sizing parameters for a 12 x 12 page

Photoshop screen shot showing the png template and the new blank layer
waiting to have its color and blending mode selected

I then used the File - Place option from the top tool
and selected my gray tone template which pop up right on my work area.

I then created a "New Layer" using the last icon at the lower right
of the layers pallet area -  it looks like a square with a flipped up corner.

Once the New Layer was active I searched for a shade of purple
that I wanted to use from the color selector on the far left tool bar
I chose color code 5d4774 for my "Plum" paper.

This is the Photoshop screen shot showing the color already selected,
the blending mode of "Overlay" chosen and the final paper ready to save

I used the paint bucket tool on the far left tool bar and clicked on my work area.
This made the whole area a sold purple, so I changed my blending mode to the Overlay setting, which allowed my pattern to show through and give me a new colored page to add to my collection.

Bonus Paper in Dark Plum
This is the new EKD Floral Scroll Paper in Plum I just created
using the above template

I created my Paper Template as png files since they are slightly transparent.
This allows you to add a color layer below rather than on top
to get a slightly different look.

Plum Paper #2
EKD Floral Scroll Paper - Plum created by adding the color layer
under the template in Photoshop rather than over the template
This 2nd color option was achieved by placing the new layer below
the template on the layers pallet in Photoshop.

I still used the same color code of 5d4774 and
the blending mode was set to Normal this time
The Highlighted Color Layer is under the Paper Template and
allows a bit more of the details of the template to show through.
This also mutes the color just a bit and gives it a more aged look
It's just a lot of fun to experiment with png templates and see the
different looks you can get based on where you put the color layer
and what blending mode you choose.

This is all personal preference so do your thing and have fun is what it's all about.

EKD "Old World Charm" - Fancy Border Mosaic Paper Set

Part 5 - Fancy Border Mosaic Paper Set from my EKD "Old World Charm" digital collection

This set includes the 4 coordinating papers and the Gray Tone paper template that can be used as is or to create other color pages with a digital computer program like Photoshop.

EKD Fancy Border Mosaic Paper Set - part of my "Old World Charm" digital collection

I like to have a ready to use stash of coordinating supplies when I'm working digitally.
Yes, it's fun to create my own from scratch or have a template that can be colored as I choose
but there are times I want quick and easy selections.

I created the Fancy Border Mosaic pattern to reflect my Spanish roots with the look
of ironwork, Moorish patterns and tile work.  The colors for the four papers are based on the focal colors from the pallet I used when designing  my "Old World Charm" digital collection.

There is also one paper in Gray Tone so it can be used "as is"
or a digital color layer can be applied so it can be tinted at a later time
as needed to match any project I'm working on.

This is the color palette I decided on when I designed my

This is the new EKD Fancy Border Mosaic - Plum

I created my Paper Template as png files since they are slightly transparent.
This allows you to add a color layer below rather than on top
to get a slightly different look.

Plum Paper #2
EKD Fancy Border Mosaic - Plum created by adding the color layer
under the template in Photoshop rather than over the template;
however I had to change the color code to 470988 to get the right tint
This 2nd color option was achieved by placing the new layer below
the template on the layers pallet in Photoshop.

I had to change the color code to 470988 which is a much brighter purple and I also changed the
blending mode to normal.  Due to this paper template having a low transparency value more muted
colors do not work well as an under layer but when you dial up the color intensity you get a great
paper that shows more detail and more subtle color variations than when you add the color layer over
the template.  Its all a matter of playing around with various layer positions and blending
selections to see what you can come up with.

This screen shot shows where I used color code 5d4774 from the first Plum Paper
and dropped the color layer under the template.
Even with the color mode set to Normal the color is a more
muted shade and can't fight up through the template

Here I selected an much brighter purple and now I have a great plum paper.
The template tones down the brightness of color code 470988 to give me
a rich antique plum and by using the color layer under the template
I retain all the minute details of the template and I also get a bit of
variegation to my color through the page

Choosing colors and blending modes in Photoshop is part of the fun
in the creative process for me and this gray scale template can come in quite handy
in a pinch; however I did hold onto the original Photoshop psd file when I created the
original template since I get a slightly different look when I add color through
the layers in the psd than when I add it directly to the template.
This way I have two options when I've created a template myself.
